Drawing Foundations- Learn the basics of "how to draw what you see" in pencil using traditional methods of recognizing basic shapes, proportion, shadows and shading, etc.
Ages 7-11 and teen classes will include some of the following subjects throughout the school year:
Drawing- Perspective & Composition- Students who have taken the Drawing Foundations class will benefit from an understanding of one & two-point perspective as well as knowing how to compose a pleasing arrangement in their artwork.
Advanced Drawing- Designed for intermediate to advanced students, classes will focus on tonal studies, basic figure drawing, recognizing negative space, perspective, and showing texture using pencil and charcoal.
Drawing Animals- Basic sketching showing proportion and animal characteristics will be rendered using several different mediums, such as pencil, charcoal, colored pencil, and oil pastels.
Cartoons- Learn how to animate simple objects, animals, and people into cartoons.
Caricatures- Learn to exaggerate the elements of a face while capturing a likeness quickly. Students will work directly on paper with a black permanent marker.
Acrylic Painting- Still Life- Paint a still life using acrylic paints. Instruction will cover composition, color mixing, and use of highlight and shadow to create form.
Oil Painting- Landscapes- No previous painting experience necessary. Students will work from a photo, with instruction on sketching, color mixing, simple perspective, and painting techniques.
Watercolor Foundations- Learn the basics of painting with watercolor from the use of materials and professional techniques, to completing a simple painting each week.
Watercolor Painting- Students will paint a still life with focus on form, a landscape with focus on perspective, a seascape with focus on texture, and a subject of their choice.
Calligraphy- Learn the "art of beautiful writing" in the Chancery Cursive style using a calligraphy pen with a cartridge. Basic upper & lower case alphabet, word formation, spacing, etc. covered. Students will complete a simple saying by the final class.
** Prerequisite: Students are recommended to take the Drawing Foundations Class prior to taking any of the advanced art classes. Becky Mayhew will make the final determination if exceptions are to be made.
