Art, Classes & Art for Sale

Class FAQ’S

  • Click here for a  registration form
  • Payment for each session is due by the first class and can be either cash, credit card or a check payable to “The Art Shoppe.” A discount is given if payment is made two weeks prior to the start of class. See Class Schedule for cost/session & discount. If anyone finds this arrangement to be financially difficult, I can accept half on the first day of the session and the second half on the fourth class of the session. If you know ahead of time there is a day within the session that you will not be able to attend, I will pro-rate the classes accordingly.
  • Absences: Please make every effort to attend class as scheduled for the session. If the student is unable to come to class, please inform Becky Mayhew as soon as possible. Please call or text: 724-413-9521 at least a half-hour before class if you need to cancel. Do not email as it may not be read in time. This way, we won’t be holding up the start of class waiting for someone who is not going to be coming. If a class has to be missed due to sickness or an unavoidable conflict, I will make every effort to have them attend another class within that week or the next, but unfortunately, my full schedule will not permit me to schedule any additional make-up classes.
  • Supplies are not included with the cost of class except for the children’s after-school classes and the first sessions of watercolors and beginners oil painting. A supply list is available for all classes. Please check with the teacher when purchasing supplies on your own to ensure they are the right materials and quality necessary. Some supply kits are available for purchase through The Art Shoppe.
    • Recommended stores for buying art supplies:
      • Pat Catan’s – Best prices in the area; usually 40% off of retail.
      • JoAnn Fabrics – Have some art supplies, but may not have everything
      • Michael’s – Usually have a good selection, but will end up paying top price unless on sale or using a coupon.
      • Online Store: Dick Blick (or several other suppliers). Good prices, but need to wait for shipment. Ask Becky Mayhew if you can bundle with other students placing an order.
  • Clothing: “Art is messy business!” Students should not wear any clothing that they would mind if paint or any other art material got on it, as it may not wash out. Aprons are available to wear during class upon request.
  • Parents & siblings are welcome to wait in the waiting area, as long as there is no disruption to the class.

Student Art Shows: The Art Shoppe believes there is great benefit to public displays of art done by students, as it generates pride in accomplishment and fosters an appreciation of the arts. In order for these displays to have a pleasing appearance, the art needs to be matted and/or framed. Every effort is made to keep the costs to a minimum. Students and parents of students will be informed ahead of time as to which pieces will be chosen for display and the cost of matting/framing done by The Art Shoppe or The Artist’s Window. Students can also have the matting/framing done on their own as long as it is done professionally.
